INTRODUCTION TO TOBY BAND PASS SUBWOOFER SYSTEMS

OVERVIEW: TOBY BandPass speakers make excellent subwoofers because they can produce deep, clean, powerful bass in practical-sized enclosures. Unlike conventional direct radiating woofers mounted on the outside of the enclosure, Toby BandPass boxes have two enclosures, with the driver mounted between them. All of the sound is delivered through a port. Frequencies above 100 Hz are filtered out by the coupling cavity, often making an electronic crossover and an extra amp unnecessary. Home subs, however, contain a passive crossover for impedance control or a subwoofer amplifier. Every Toby BandPass speaker system is computer tested to match a reference standard.

DRIVER: Large diameter cones are not needed in these bandpass subs because the air load is in the coupling cavity, not in open air. For example, the Ranger has more captive air load than four direct-radiating fifteens! To withstand the tremendous strain on the diaphragm by the coupling cavity, we make our own woofers with premium carbon graphite loaded cones with heavy rubber surrounds. Toby BandPass drivers have 2 inch and 2 ½ inch diameter voice coils.

IMPEDANCE: All BandPass subs have one driver with dual 4 Ohm/4 Ohm voice coils except the Ranger which has two 4 Ohm drivers. For very high power, always choose the Ranger! It is 7 dB louder than the Sheriff. All of these subs can be converted into one channel 8 Ohm by wiring the two coils in series or converted to 2 Ohm by paralleling the two channels. Also note that all of these boxes except the Ranger can be ordered in one channel 4 Ohm.

WARRANTY: All car systems carry a limited warranty for two years to the original customer with proof of purchase. Sub amps are covered for one year. Home systems are covered for five years. Charred voice coils, bent frames, and other abuses are not covered by warranty.
